Hello there Laurent! Well we are distant cousins from way back!

Angus Campbell & Elizabeth (Betsy) Kerr were my Great Great Grandparents from their daughter Frederina Campbell. This must have been Grace's sister.

Frederina was born 1842 at Dalfoor. Alvie (South of Inverness) and married at Laggan in 1862 to Alexander Rose.

This is great finding you - Through this site I have also met another cousin from America!

Do you have any further information on any other siblings of Frederina & Grace?

Lovely to hear from you Laurent

June - Highlands of Scotland

Hi June!
I'm sorry I don't know much more about Grace's family except her parents' names and grandchildren.

Her son Niel Campbell Maclauchlan married Maggie Mackay in 1892 in Port Glasgow. I found 2 children:
-Grace Maclauchlan
-Ivy Maclauchlan born 1900 Torcroy, Insh

Her daughter Betty Maclauchlan b 1847 had two illegitimate children:
-David Neil Maclauchlan b 1867 Torcroy, Insh
-John Grant Maclauchlan b 1876 Torcroy, Insh

Her son Angus Niel Maclauchlan married Jane Anne Mackenzie in 1878. Angus spoke both Gaelic and English. They had 7 children:
1) Grace Jane Maclauchlan ( my great-grandmother) b 4th may 1880 Inverallan. Grace worked in Edinburgh for a few years and had a child called Angus Maclauchlan (born in Edinburgh 1905). She then went back to Aviemore and married Alexander Collie in 1909. They had 5 children:
- Angus Wiiliam Collie  b 1910 New Stevenston, died in Vancouver, Canada
-Alexander Collie(my grandfather) b 1912New Stevenston, died 1988 Insh
- Allan Collie b 1914
-Grace Collie b 1918, died 1929 after a mastoid operation in Inverness)
-John Collie b 1916, d 1987 Insh
When her husband developped rhumatoid arthritis, they went back to the Highlands. At one time they had a guest-house in Kingussie.Apparently Grace was a happy person who liked to laugh and cook for a large number of people. She spent her last years in Insh (Greenfield Croft) and died in 1952. Grace understood Gaelic but none of her children spoke the language.

2) Isabella Mary Maclauchlan b 14th march 1893 Aviemore

3) Margaret Anne Maclauchlan, b 1883 Aviemore,died young

4)John Maclauchlan b 1887 Aviemore.

5)George Angus Maclauchlan b 1884 Aviemore, married Jessie Fergusson 1910 Docharn ( Boat Of Garten). 1 daughter: Margaret Jane Maclauchlan, b 1912 Dochlaggan. He fought in WWI and his trace disappears in "Mesopotamia".

6)James Bain MacLauchlan b 1885 Aviemore, married Jessie Martin 1909 Inverness, d 1945 Inverness, joiner.  I found 2 daughters:
-Jessie Anne Maclauchlan b 1910 Cnoc Granish, married James Crilley
-Isabella Maclauchlan b 1918 Avielochan

7)Jessie Watson Bain Maclauchlan b 1889 Aviemore, married Charles Asher 1912 . Charles was killed in France in 1918. They had 1 daughter: Janet Asher b 1912 Boat of Garten. Jessie died in 1990 in Ballindaloch.

I will look in the Mormon Files for Campbells in Laggan when I have more time.

Kind regards,

Laurent.

Hello again Laurent - thank you so much for all the information. I am gradually putting all this data onto gedcom software (do you use such software?) with the hope of eventually disseminating the Family Tree to all who are interested outwith my immediate family.

I will PM you with my email address.

Regards June

Hi Laurent,
I just saw your posts. My grandparents were Neil Campbell MacLauchlan and Maggie MacKay of Torcroy, Kingussie. I live in Inverness.
