William Henry Williams b1865
« on: Thursday 01 April 10 15:45 BST (UK) »
Hi

I wonder if anyone can help?

I am trying to trace William Henry William's arrival in Canada. I had a quick look at ancestry.co.uk but I don't have a subsciption that covers these records.

I have been contacted by a lady from Canada who is trying to trace her William back to Meavy in Devon. I also have the same chap but he goes off radar in the 1880's & I'm sure it's the same one.

Mine had a father also called William William's & the same family are still at Urgles farm in Meavy (hamlet is Goodameavy).

I'd be grateful for any help as I can't get to my library until after the Easter hols & I'd like to help her.

Regards & Thanks in advance

Suzanne

Your subject line says Williams but the possessive for that is Williams' so you'll need to modify to correct...
What was his occupation in case someone can look it up for you ?  Is this the ship's mate in 1881 Devon?

There is the 1901 census and also the 1911 census available on this site....http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/
choose all that may have been misstranscribed and then merge them together as he may have been just called W. or Wm...only choose "W" or just male & the age  +/- ...and the image will be available by hitting split screen link...
Immigrants were asked to state year of immigration...It can sometimes be out a bit, but may help the cause....

Better yet, encourage the Canadian contacts to do this themselves.

This is a work in progress. Sources cited as found. I would love to hear from anyone who connects with any of my lines. Remember genealogy is a game of clues!

Hi Suzanne,
I am trying to find the same person who was my great uncle, are we sure he went to Canada ? his brother Johm Thomas Williams settled in Australia in the Lockyear Valley and had a son William Henry Williams.
Details of John Thomas Williams can be found at www.foga.org.au/graves/williams/williams.htm
might be interesting if you dont already have this info.
By the way our family farm at Meavy which was in the Williams family for 150 plus years was sold out of the family in 2011 quite sad really, but finances prevented the family from keeping it.
I think we have spoken before but would be good to get in touch again as I would love to trace the family back further and see if we have any living relatives overseas etc. Best Wishes Sandie

also -More confirmation - Jack born 29 July 1892 ( awe he drowned age 28, in Quebec)  middle name was Northmore! Cecilia's last name according to site above.

Charlotte/Emma was still with parents for 1891 census...says age 30 so she might have been older than marriage stated...( my Gma took several years off her age when she married a man 11 years her junior!)
