« on: Wednesday 07 April 10 22:43 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any expertise /knowledge on Catholic convents  for girls in Liverpool C: 1880's- 1890 ?

I have been informed that My Gt Grandmother was in one during this time & would like to investigate this lead further .

Would any records exist for these places ?

Notre Dame (now St Julie's) springs to mind,   http://www.stjulies.org.uk/index.php?page=our-foundress         or La Sagesse (no longer there).  I don't know much about them other than that -

Try here

http://liverpool-schools.co.uk/html/all_schools.html If there's nothing on there, it might be worth contacting them, they probably know more about the schools in the area than is listed.

Or perhaps contact the LEA or Church?  If there are records, they'll be in the Picton library - which is closing for refurbishment for about a year soon, so you'll need to be quick!

Hi i can't say for sure if any of these were open when you want but if you know the names of convents/orphanages  in the Liverpool area 1901 you can work back through the census to see if they were about around the time period you want? Just one thing to remember, any Catholic institutions are really hard work to get any true information out of, come to that most religions are  :(

What area did she live in? It might help narrow it down - or it might not  ;D

don't know whether this will help but there was a Leyfield Road Convent in West Derby which also was an orphanage.
