Margaret Halliday Miller's final resting place
« on: Friday 09 April 10 23:08 BST (UK) »
My great grandmother x 3 lived in Rothesay and died in Columshill Street in 1866 at the age of 80.  Can anyone with local knowledge point me in the right direction of the cemetery she might have been buried?  Her husband was William Miller who predeceased her.  Also, her  daughter my great great grandmother, Janet Miller Anderson, who was born in 1827 and lived in Rothesay at the 1861 census but no  trace of her after that so suspect she died around the age of 40 in the town also but can find no record of her death.  Her husband was Neil Anderson born 1824 and died in 1875 at Gallowgate Street.  At the time of his death his occupation was Town Crier.  Love to hear from anyone who has any info on any of the above.

Thanks so much for the information.  For some reason I couldn't find her on a census after 1861 but did wonder as on her husband Neil Anderson's death cert in 1875 her status wasn't 'deceased'.  I will do a search and try and see if I can get their daughter Sarah's marriage certificate to see what it says regarding Janet there.  What you have told me has helped enormously.

Many thanks ev

Karen

usually at the left hand side of the death cert. it will say "widow/er of" or
if the spouse was still alive "married to"

if you google it looks like kamesburgh and port bannatyne were the same place
"in 1860 this part of the island was purchased by the marquess of bute ,
who renamed kamesburgh as port bannatyne"

Hi Karen and ev,

Janet died in 1884 at 154 Crookston Street, Glasgow, widow of Neil Anderson, ship steward. She was listed as 54, and parents were William Miller, master slater and Margaret Miller m.s. Halliday. Her death was registered by son-in-law, Thomas Naismith. It seems she died in an accidental fall, although there is no RCE to confirm the circumstances. :(

Yes Hume, good work  :) and many thanks.   Yes Ev That's my great grandparents' marriage.   Agnes was named after her paternal grandmother, Agnes Jennings  (the mother of Neil Anderson, his father was also Neil Anderson).  I have been trying for ages to find  any record of them without success.  Pretty sure they were from Glasgow area as that's where son, Neil was born.  Any suggestions on them?

Thanks for all your help

Karen
