Dear Althea,
We knew that Roy Alexander Hodge was married with Germaine Hodge and that she (they) lived in St Boniface Manitoba Canada. But we don't know what happened with her after Hodge's death. Did she stay in Canada? Was she Canadian? Did they have children? Any information to be able to find out if there are still living relatives somewhere.
Kind Regards
 Luc & Guy Leus

Unless you track his parents and siblings, maybe the research would prove more fruitful perhaps on a canadian board. Given his death info, residence must have been in Canada
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,166.0.html

If there were connections in NZ, you would think that family details would be on death notices for the father..so asking for a lookup of that could be an answer
Bye

Hi there. I'm currently researching the 179 Airmen and women who died during training at 32 Operational Training Unit, Patricia Bay, Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada. The details of the accident that claimed the life of Roy Alexander Hodge are on file at the BC Aviation Museum in Sidney, BC. The record states: "Dakota FL650 vanished during night navigation exercise. Two oxygen cylinders of a type used were recovered in the Pearse Island Group, northern Vancouver Island - Missing"

Crew members aboard the Dakota were Pilot Officer John Benedict Murphy 26 (Irish - RAFVR) and Sgt. Douglas Oliver 23 (English - RAFVR).

A new memorial to the 179 will be dedicated this spring. It is a striking monument with a set of 25  3 metre high feather motifs cut from 3/8" steel plate, with the name, rank and age of each casualty laser-cut through the steel. A description of the monument is available here:

Let me know if you would like further info. It would be nice to alert family members to the new memorial if anyone can help with that. No dedication date yet.
Researching bios for the 179 airmen and women who lost their lives while training at Patricia Bay Air Base, Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada 1939-45.
