Richard Dillon
« on: Monday 12 April 10 15:37 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find information about Richard who I believe was born around 1910 in Nottinghamshire. I believe that at one time he lived in Park Street, Chatham, Ontario and revisited the UK in 1945 and again some time in the 60s
Any help would be appreciated.

There is a record of Richard Dillon, 34, of 207 Park St. Chatham and Olive Dillon, 31, of same address arriving New York on British Overseas Airway from the London Airport 26 Oct 1947.

There is also a handwritten entry for Pan American Airlines for 1 Nov 1947 arriving New York from Great Britain for the same couple except it notes an address of 22 Stanforth St., Mansfield, A??house and the notation underneath "stepson pg 2 Olive".  Richard is shown as a miner.
Perhaps this was their outward flight?

Graves for Olive (Cook) Dillon and Richard are in Mapleleaf, Chatham.  You have to send away for the details from their headstones.

On the 1911 British census there is only one entry containing Richard and Dillon born 1910 +- 2 years and that is for George Richard Martin b. 1910 in Worksop Nottinghamshire.
From FreeBMD Sep 1909 Birth Worksop 7b 32 George Richard M Dillon

From this site you can email for a copy of Richard Dillon's 2005 obituary  from Chatham newspapers to see if he is "yours".

The 24 April 1945 Chatham newspaper has a marriage for Richard M. Dillon s/o M.M. Dillon to Mary Elizabeth Dempsey d/o H.H. Dempsey
There is a Toronto obituary for Col. Richard Maurice Dillon (1920-2008) s/o Brigadier M. Murray Dillon and Muriel Hicks of London, Ontario husband of 63 years to Mary Elizabeth Dempsey.

Seems to have been 2 Richard Dillon's in Chatham around the same time.

I realise this is an exceptionally old thread, but I stumbled upon it and had to reply.  The man you're asking about is my Grandfather.  I can probably answer most questions you have about his life after he came to Canada.
