hi,
I am a descendent of a Peter McArthur b. 1809 in skipness,argyll who came to Canada @ 1824. He received a letter in 1895 from a cousin Peter McArthur saying that his sister had married a Neil Walker and had a small farm near Tarbert.
Any connection? (*)

Hi
I think the Peter McArthur who wrote the letter sounds like the same Peter who was the brother of my great-great grandmother Christina McArthur. I have on my records that he was born (or maybe baptised) on 26.2.1808 and he lived on a farm in Skipness near Tarbert, called Brulain. The reason I think it must be him is that I know John Walker (Christina's husband) had a brother Neil who married a Janet McArthur, and yes they had a farm in Tarbert before emigrating to Ontario in 1874.

Do you think this is the same man? It would mean Janet was another sibling of Peter and Christina. Although I had not made that link it does not seem unlikely?

Yes, I believe Christine and Peter (letter writer), and Janet
 are children of Duncan and Magaret ( McVannel) . I will try to find more material on Walkers in Canada.
I presume Duncan and my gGGrandfather Archibald McArthur are brothers.

Janet McArthur Sterling, Ottawa, Canada.

Yes it is a connection, my great grandfather was the Neil Walker he married Janet, they had about 30 acres on the hill over looking Tarbert. They moved to Crinan, Ontario with their children, my grandfather was Peter Walker.

Hi All,
In Cayley's original posting the parents of Janet McArthur married to Neil Walker, are listed as Neil McArthur  married to Mary Campbell DOB: Jul. 10, 1796 Kilmarich, Lochgoilhead.
===========
The " other Janet" , daughter of Duncan McArthur & Margaret McVannel & sibling of Peter & Christin
IGI Batch#C115312
Janat  27Sep1817 Duncan McArthur & Margarat McVannal
===========
Is there an error in the parentage of Cayley's Janet or was Janet, dau. of Duncan & Margaret, not
the one who married Neil Walker?

Hi all

I think this surely has to be a mistake - the letter from Peter McArthur (now thought to be dated 1873) says that "sister Jannett is married to Neil Walker and has a small farm (?????)" in the last line of the 1st page. From other things (census entries & death certificate) Peter's parents are named as Duncan McArthur & Margaret McVannel, so these must also be Jannet's parents.

Hi all,
Yes when I started researching my great grandmother Janet McArthur I thought her parents were Neil McArthur & Mary Campbell. Dad had said we were the Campbell clan and I was sure I had the right lady. But with further research & info/help from another Walker cousin realized I had the wrong Janet McArthur, my Janet was born in Skipness not Lochgilhead.

Thanks to Anne & Janet I have been able to put together a lot more of the family, which includes all the McVannel people that I knew were related but could not find out how. I have the book "the history of the McVannel clan" the family of Duncan McVannel & Jean McArthur. I believe Duncan 1774-1837-is a brother to my gr gr grandmother Margaret (Peggy) McVannel 1776-1864.
