I've been looking at what may a questionable land deal between Peter Mc Vannel & his (black sheep) 1st cousin, John McArthur in Ekfrid Twp. Ontario in March 1881.

John seemed to be a poster boy for bad behavior & I've been wondering if Peter was an innocent bystander or a shifty accomplice in some sort of deal.

I'm a Walker and some of my descendants were the McVannels.  I'm a descendant of Robert Walker and Margaret Watson.  Margaret's mother was Mary McVannel, and her father was William Watson.

I came across an interesting fact today.  One Duncan McVannel was killed in Ontario:

PICKARD, Cyrus
Male, age 20
Crime: Murder
Victim: McVannell, Duncan
Trial: 1871/09/19
Assizes; London, Ont.
Judge: Gwynne
Execution fixed to: 1871/12/28
Recommendation for mercy: yes
Result: O. in C. of 1871/11/23, PC 1542
Hanging: 1871/12/28; Middlesex Gaol, London, Ont.
Reference: RG 13, vol. 1408, file 40A; 1871
Content: Correspondence, petitions, order-in-council,
transcript of evidence, coroner's inquest.

Hi ZerooreZ,
I was aware of this murder. The recipient of the bullet shot by Pickard was
Duncan McV. born abt 1839, son of Duncan McV. b.1793 & Mary Dawson. He emigrated with his parents 1848 and settled in Blanshard Twp.Perth Co.
Duncan Jr. (1839) m. Jane McCulloch 1867
The following are in section 'A' of the St.Marys Cemetery:
Row 15, # 2 Duncan McVannell died April 21, 1871 age 33, erected by his wife Jane McVannell (no mention that Jane is buried here)
Row 1, # 2 Kate E. Bartlett 1872 - 1956 w/o Duncan McVannell
Also buried in this cemetery without a gravestone is this entry: Duncan McVannell died 1880 age 87

It's as difficult following the McVannells as the McArthurs what with the use of only a half dozen given names

ZerooreZ,

I just looked at my file and have only  Agnes, Jean, William & Mary as children of Margaret McV. & Wm. Watson. Where does Margaret fit in the family?

I think we're talking about different branches.

The Margaret that I mentioned was the daughter of Mary (not Margaret) McVannel and William Watson.

Mary McVannel (1801-1876) and William Watson's (1783-1866) children were:

Jane, Mary, Janet, Agnes, Margaret, Martha, Christena, William, Duncan, James, and John.

I know what you mean about the lack of names...
