So there are two George Hunter PIERCEs. (Sorry trying to get this clear in my own mind - not easy  :-[)

GHP1
b 1846 Camberwell Uk
d 1911 Sydney, wife given in SMH notice as Frances
Marriage:
1896  Graham H PIERCE = Frances A P MCGILL (also indexed as MACGILL)  #6613
I cannot see a death or a marriage involving a Mercy Burnet (other than those where she is already mentioned in earlier posts as the mother). No PIERCE births with a Mercy as mother's name.  ???

GHP2 married Bertha MASTERS 1908.   I assume he would be the one died 1966.  Bertha already had a child George Constantine MASTERS who later used the surname PIERCE.  Thus GHP2  would be the chap who signed the Army record as father of Bertha's son George.

Re Emily's birth (1918 minus 47) approx 1870 - 1872.  Could she be UK born?

Graham Hunter Pierce birth 27th (not sure of the 7) July 1846 and baptism 5 Jan 1849 at St George, Camberwell, Southwark, Middlesex England .  I'm attaching a snip as I'm not sure of the street name or the occupation of his Dad, for anyone looking 1851,1861, 1871 etc

Cheers,  JM

Ta Judith,

I think the enumerator in 1851 has the family as Peirce !  and his Dad was a Railway employee, and they had a visitor, surname HUNTER, also GHP had siblings etc

10 West Terrace, Bermondsey, Surrey  ;)

I apologise for not detailing all the information from the baptism of Graham Hunter in 1849....my help was required outside.  Work interrupts our hobbies ::).

I note an elder sister Emily on the census but can't find a marriage in UK or NSW.

I note an elder sister Emily on the census but is it possible that Emily is a sister to Mrs G H PIERCE :-\

Hi Cando,  I think the Emily Read wife of Frank Herman Read would be a neice of the Emily Pierce who was older sister of the Graham Hunter Pierce with both GHP and EP as siblings on that 1851 census.  Think this because of the MI's you found at Waverley Cemetery.

It is possible that Graham Hunter Pierce 1846-1911 had a son who carried same name.  And Anna's opening remarks notes has him the 1846-1911 chap with a daughter named Emily, so perhaps that daughter was named after that elder sister  ;)

Cheers,  JM (sympathising with Cando as work intrudes on hobbies  ;) )
