COPCUTT family: Waddesdon
« on: Saturday 24 April 10 20:28 BST (UK) »
My 2nd Great-Grandmother came from Waddesdon in Buckinghamshire .....

Patience Prudence COPCUTT, born 1871 in Waddesdon.

She was the youngest of 10 children. Names of her siblings also starting with the letter P.
Philip, Penninnah, Priscilla, Peter, Phineas, Pamela, Pashur, Phillis, Phoebe

Parents: Nathaniel COPCUTT & Eliza VENEMORE

The family moved to London (Kensington).
Mother Eliza died when she was 7 years old and her father Nathan, died 2 years later. Family was ripped apart.

Like to learn more about this family ..... and get intouch with people who connects to them.

Regards,
Colum

Hello Colum
you might find something useful here:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/08jb/
There are some 200 COPCUTTS on Heather's site.I found this when I was searching for the Taylor family of Waddesdon.
Should you find a link between your family and the Taylor's, I'd be interested.
Barbara :)

Hi Colum,

1851 Census
Waddeston, Buckinghamshire
HO107/1721/728/10

Nathaniel COPCUTT, 27, Head, Mar,  Ag lab
Eliza, 24, Wife, Mar
Peninnah, 5Mths, Daug
Susanna VENEMORE, 70, Lodger, Widow*
George Venemore, 2, Grandson
All born Waddeston

*As the Site has Elizabeths parents as James Venemore and Sarah Slaughter I would guess this is James Mother ie Elizas Grand/Mother.

Possible 1841 for Nathaniel???

1841 Census ( under CAPWELL)
Waddeston, Bucks
HO107/39/15/Waddeston
William COPCUTT, 40, Ag lab
Ruth, 35
THAND, 15
Charles, 15
Moses, 10
Jofre?maybe Jesse, 6
Abigail, 4
Eliza, 1
All born in County

By 1851 Census Thand/Nathaniel is not at home so fits with him marrying.

Trish :)

EDIT; I checked the Copcutts on the site Barbara posted after I found these Census data as I like to be sure of facts if possible.

There are lots of Copcutt entries on Ancestry but not very well researched ::)
Nearly all have copied one another with a very obvious mistake;
All have William Copcutt born 1833 and Ruth 1801!!! Strange that he is older than some of the children they have down for him!

I'm a descendent of this family. Nathaniel's son Peter came to London and married an Elizabeth Tarrant. They married in Notting Hill when their given address was  2 Bazing Road (Basing Street) Kensington (1874). They were living near the Caledonian Cattle Market
42a Marquis Road, London (1881) with Peter recorded as a milkman and now with my grandmother Annie. At the 1991 census, they were at Farm Street (Mayfair) with Peter as a messenger for the vestry. He died shortly after in the old St Georges Hospital on Hyde Park corner of granular kidneys. Our family lore has it that either he or Nathaniel was the illegitimate child of a Rothschild, but I can't find evidence for that to make sense. Nathaniel did 2 months hard labour for poaching in 1849. I imagine life was always hard for these people. Also, Peter was supposed to have keep a dairy herd in Hyde Park. The stories seem mostly to be the misconstrued memories of my grandmother (d 1951) from her childhood. Maybe I'll find out more. Nathaniel's father John lived to a good age and helped dig the Wooton Lakes.

Peter Copcutt and Elizabeth nee Tarrant, possibly at the time of their wedding in 1874.

Welcome to Rootschat Martin.

Colum (Colum43) hasnt been on Rootschat since 2015.
He/she also never replied to the info given by Barbara and I to try and help with the query.

I love the photo, a very good looking couple.
It is lovely to put faces to people from Families that we have researched for others.

Maybe Colum will reply to you if they have the same emails address as 2015.
If not someone descended from the Family my find this in the near future and contact you.

All the best,
Trish :)

PPS;
We have a great Photo Restoration Board on here. If you would like the photo restored you should submit it.
(amazing restorers who do a great job on them for free)
