Ann LAWRENCE baptism in Gamston
« on: Sunday 25 April 10 00:01 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a baptism of my ancestor Ann LAWRENCE, who married in 1746 in Gamston. Since after their marriage, Ann and her husband went to live in her husband's parish (Laxton), I am thinking that Ann was probably born in Gamston around 1720.

Thanks!

Hi Sylvia,

Thanks for your reply. I don't know if this would be the right Ann because Heslington is a long way from Gamston. I hadn't expanded my search far outside of Notts because quickly too many possibilities add up.

IGI there is an Ann Lorans baptised 24 March 1720 at West Drayton- a spit from Gamston. Her parents were John Lorans and Constant, there is another baptism of Elizabeth Lawrance 6 dec 1716 West Drayton parents John Lawrance and Constance.I would have a look on my copy of Phillimore for a marriage but my daughter seems to have hidden it somewhere!!

Thanks larkspur, that is another possibility but it is still quite a ways from Gamston. Without further information I don't think I can say for sure who Ann was.

Hi Alexander

According to Genuki church database West Drayton is only 1 mile from Gamston.

I will check both Gamston & West Drayton PR's the next time I visit the Records Office.

I didn't realise there are two Gamstons in Notts! That would explain a lot. I assumed that the marriage in 1746 of Ann and her husband (Richard Burkitt) had occurred at the Gamston near West Bridgford, Nottingham. If it was the one near Retford, that makes much more sense since Laxton really is not far away from Retford. Obviously I haven't checked the original marriage register myself yet.

Thanks Carol for clarifying that...otherwise it would have taken ages for me to realise that something wasn't adding up. Your offer to check those parish registers would be very much appreciated.

Hi Alexander

No luck with this on I'm afraid.  I couldn't see  Ann Lawrence bapt at Gamston, but the pages were very mixed up and very faded in parts.
The marriage entry states they were both of this parish. The West Drayton entry didn't give any extra information that Larkspur gave.
