Hi Kylie
John Norman came from a line of wealthy landowners in the South Elmham area. He lived at one time in South Elmham Hall.  His wife, Sarah's death is reported in the paper in 1836 (see The British Newspaper Archive).  She died in South Elmham Hall in 1836 "in her 83rd year" and John died there in 1837. John and Sarah probably didn't live in the hall for long as in 1825 the wife of George John Milles is reported to have given birth there.  When John Norman died the house was occupied by his daughter and son-in-law, Esther Payne Durrant nee Norman and George Durrant.
Best wishes
Lorna

Hi,

According to the Suffolk Burial Index (ex SFHS);

19-8-1837 John Norman of St.Elmham St.Margaret, aged 83, buried Rumburgh, St.Michael

and in case you need it;

16-10-1873 Esther Payne Durrant (aged 75) of Elmham St.Margaret, buried Elmham All Saints.

Thanks very much Alan . That's great!

I am still trying to find the marriage of Thomas Hawkins and his wife Sarah (Sarah Normans parents) pre 1821....I am still wondering about her sister Esther's middle name of Payne. Could it be her mother's maiden name?

Any suggestions on finding the marriage? ?

Hi,

The IGI (Family Search) may be a help.

Here is a marriage for John Durrant to a Sarah Payne 8-12-1803 in Suffolk;
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NJNS-LBC

Does this help?

Me again,
Here's another lead - John Norman's bapt. Possibly ties in with his age at burial;
