although on the 1881 census it states that john is married think this should be widowed
there is this death that fits in every way

     Thanks for the help

     On the matter of William Dix and his first wife i  (well daughter not me) have found a old e-mail which said that William Dix first wife may have been Eliza Broughton 1831- 1860 . Thank you Sandy

     Just had a phone call from a elderly aunt who told me that Mary lived in a pub as a child. Also there was a story in the family which was ,that when Mary was a child she did something to Gladys when her aunt told her of. Mary said to her you can not tell me off you are not my mother which the aunt reply that is what you think i am your mother.Do not know how right my aunt got this sa she is in her 90s

to see who is down as her parents.

     Have phone a distant family member who it turns out has a copy of Mary Dix birth certified. They have e-mail me a copy and sent information on it.

    Mary Alexander Dix born 25th feb 1902 father is William Dix mother Ann Dix formley Lowe address Streatley Farm Streatley Berkshire.


    They also say that Mary as a child when by the name of Painton but was nver adopted.

     My daughter had a look at the 1911 census and she look up Mary Painton because she can not find a Mary Dix

  This is what she found

address the Blue Boare inn North Health Newbury

  Painton THomas Henry married age 45 born 1866 inn keeper born at Falow Berks

   Painton Anne wife  married 15 years age 44 born 1867
 at Tubney Berkshire

  Painton John  son age 14 born  1897  Abingdon  Berks

  Painton Mary Alexandra daughter age 9 born 1902 at Streatley Berks

  RG NUMBER RG14 PIECE 6379

   IF THE FAMILY STORY IS WRIGHT AM I LOOKING FOR A ANNE DIX WHO MARRIED THOMAS HENRY PAINTON.WHY WAS SHE USING THE NAME PAINTON IF SHE NOT ADOPTED ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT MARY TOLD MY AUNT THAT SHE WAS GIVEN AWAY BECAUSE HER FAMILY HAD 13 CHILDREN BUT I DO NOT KNOW IF THAT TRUE.
