William is my 4th great grandfather

you said that James Nairn b.28 Jun 1761 in Auchterderran Fife Scotland to hugh nairn and Isobel McIntosh. but the igi shows that james nairn born on that date in Auchterderran Fife had parents called ANDW. NAIRN & JANET GRIG. also that james born to hugh nairn & Isobel McIntosh was born on 09 AUG 1760  Croy And Dalcross, Inverness, Scotland.

For a long time I have thought my Nairn ancestors came from Fife, but I can not prove it. Andrew Nairn and his spouse Kathrane Tod were living Ayton, Berwickshire 1769. After many years research and looking through all kinds of records there is no trace to be found of them again. I do suspect that Kathrane belonged to a Fife family, (Katherine daughter of David Tod and Grizell Baines c. 30th Sep. 1733, Wemyss). This would indicate a possible link for Andrew to Fife as well. Has anyone out there got any idea how to progress with this? Descendants of Andrew and Kathrane  still live in the Scottish Border area and Northumberland, as well as many countries around the World.
