Hello Anne

I hope you don`t mind me saying but i think you have given James Thomas ,born 1855,the wrong Dad.His Dad was Thomas Mitchell brother of Henry.
Henry had a son James Thomas born in 1862,

I have a copy of the marriage for Thomas,if i can help. His wife was Harriet.

Kind regards

Hi Omega
I have Thomas marrying Harriet Goings in Fairlight. But Henry his brother has up to 20 children i have 15 of them on my tree, Henry was run over by a horse and cart in 1907/8. James Thomas his son lived at Red Lake Ore and was a bricklayer he married Sarah An Realf in 1876. They had quite a few children too one being James who married Rosa Hyde in Hastings in 1897 they has 12 children.
Not sure what is going on maybe we need to get together and see where the problem is
Regards Anne

The starting point has to be the marriage certificate of James Mitchell and Sarah Realf.
This reads:-
Marriage solemnized at the Parish Church, Oare (sic), August 7th, 1876
between
James Nelson Mitchell, 21, bachelor, labourer of Oare, son of Thomas Mitchell, fisherman
and
Sarah Ann Realf, 20, spinster of Oare, daughter of Thomas Realf, labourer.
One complication is that the birth registration for James Mitchell, son of Thomas Mitchell, former fisherman, August 4th 1855, simply calls him James, not James Nelson. He is however exactly the right age. Given the number of other people in the family with Nelson as their second name, he may have felt that he ought to have that family name and taken it for himself.

Should have added that my mother-in-law was the daughter of Rose/Rosa Mitchell and I also met Nellie's daughter, Edie.

Sorry. Have just realized that there were rather a lot of Roses in this story. It must the been the girl's name of the time. I was referring to the Rose and Nellie who were daughters of James and Sarah.
