Thank you migky, I had'nt heard of the 15 star medal before - the other names were familiar though.  Thank you for clarifying that for me.  ;D

I think maybe another brother Foster Bowness may have got the same medals- 11 th Bord R. Machine Gun Corps. Would you be able to find details for him.

Thanks Phil those are the same medals the brother was awarded, could'nt see anthing that said he was killed in action - not sure if the medals index always gives that info or not  ???

The index cards do not always give that sort of information.

I cannot see him on CWGC, so he presumably survived the war.

There is another Bowness who is buried in Egremont Cemetery. Any relation?

Looking at CWGC theres a Royal Engineer N Bowness died and is buried in England but its not the same as your man..11th Borders has a website but i think he would have gone overseas with the MGC Machine Gun Corps.http://freewebs.com/granatloch/index.html

Yes, the parents, other brothers etc are all buried there but no sign of Foster on the BMD for a marriage or death record hat I have come across.  :(

The father was Nicholas but he was born about 1850 so I did'nt expect to see any WW1 records for him.  Have you any other details on the Royal Engineer - N Bowness please ?
