On the 1861 census there is a David Wingfield aged 68 born Windsor. Looking at his occupation it looks like Lintlemant R'Navy. There's an Arthur with him age 9 born somewhere in Glos.

More on that child cruelty case of 1868.

In this 1868 press report (in the New Zealand press) the name is Wingfield but in most of the UK reports it's Winfield http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast?a=d&d=EP18680504.2.10&l=mi&e=-------10--81----0Halloween--

From this report it appears that the Alfred Win(g)field in these reports was born at Christmas 1852. His mother Charlotte was great aunt to the victim William Tugwood (born 1861) whose family resided at Boveney nr Windsor.

The convict register has her as Charlotte Winfield aged 45.

Thanks Shaun, Charlotte comes up in the Ancestry search as Winfield with the summary from the Sussex Assizes but Alfred has no mention although some Assizes do record not guilty
