I am struggling to find any information on my great grandfather John Chambers and beyond. The only certificate I have is from Scotlandspeople for his second marriage. On this certificate his father is listed as John Chambers and his mother is listed as Mary McLelland, previously Chambers nee McGaw. Sounds straight forward enough however I am told John was illegitimate and he wasn't always John Chambers I am guessing he was born John McGaw. From information that has passed down the family I believe his father may have been much older than his mother and only took the name Chambers when they got married.

The family bible states John was married to Elizabeth Cochrane at Loughgilly, Armagh 11/07/1902.

I can not find any reference to his birth, first marriage or anything relating to his mother.  Any hints where I can look?

You can search the an index for Irish civil records on Familysearch - see Irish Civil BMD index

I had a quick look, but didnt see a marriage for an Elizabeth Cochrane in 1902 in Co. Armagh, but there is one for a John Chambers in the year/quarter you mentioned :

 Name: John Chambers
 Registration District: Banbridge  (Co. Armagh)
 Event Type: Marriage
 Quarter / Year: Jul - Sep 1902
 Volume : 1 / Page : 229

Thanks again for the help. Still swithering about joining emerald Ancestors. With the marriage info that you have given is that all the information they give (which I can probably get through family search if it is back up again) or do they have all the certificate info?
