Information on the Rebellion in 1789
« on: Friday 21 May 10 10:26 BST (UK) »
Hi.
Is anyone out there very knowledgable on the 1789 Rebellion, or have books/records they can look up in?
From a search on the internet (in a Calendar of Protestant Prisoners) I found a John GORE from Duncormack/Duncormick was arrested, but I think later released.
I am after any information I can find about him and why he was arrested, etc.

Hope someone can help. Katharine.

Are you referring to the rebellion in 1798? (1789 was the the date of the French Revolution I believe).

This is the only link I know of that names prisoners and casualties:

Have a read of the section regarding Wexford Bridge.

Dara.

p.s. I wouldn't claim to be very knowledgeable!

Thanks Dara, for the link. I had a quick flick through it - very interesting to read. Searched for GORE and unfortunately there are no hits.
And yes, of course I meant 1798..... that will teach me to write a post when I am tired!!!!

Thanks Dara. That list is actually the one that I looked at and found John GORE as a prisoner. It seems to be the only listing on the internet at the present time. I am hoping that someone might find some information, or point me in the right direction for more on why he was arrested etc.

Katharine.

Hi, I have an interest in 1798 too. ;D
if you do a search on google books you can find some books about 1798 which are now of print and you can save them as pdfs. I found references to names of people in 1798 that way...worth a try! good luck!
