Garden House, Merrington Lane, Spennymoor
« on: Saturday 22 May 10 09:06 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,

I am looking for a photo of the Garden House Inn, Merrington Lane, Spennymoor, (formerly West Australian)? I believe it was locatated near the Smart & Brown/Thorn Factory, and pulled down sometime in the '60's.

Thank you

John

Thanks Stan, I did have a look some time ago, without success, although, it looks like there are more photos this time.  I will enjoy looking again.

Thank you very much.

Probably too late to reply to this and cannot help with any photographs but in the 1940s I lived at Garden House, Merrington Lane, Spennymoor.  What I believe is now a trading estate was built during this time and, I think, was an ordnance factory making munitions for the war.  I was a child of almost 6 when the war started and I remember the V1 bomb dropping at Tudhoe and getting on my bike the following morning to see the damage it had done - great big hole in the middle of the cricket pitch and nearby houses with windows and roofs damaged.
