Noble Armstrong & Barbara Montgomery

Hi,
   I am looking for Noble Armstrong & Barbara Montgomery & any other children, their daughter Sarah Anne Armstrong b. abt 1825, Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland marr. James Hill (b. 21 Nov 1820, Magheramorne, Larne, Antrim) on 13 Feb 1849 in Enniskillen. Any info most welcome.

Welcome to Rootschat. I've moved your post to the FERMANAGH board since Sarah Armstrong was born and married there and it's her family you are searching for. Armstrong is a very common Fermanagh surname.
The marriage of James Hill and Sarah Armstrong took place in Enniskillen district and is listed in civil registrations which means it was a non-Catholic marriage (Protestant church or Registry Office)- do you have the marriage certificate? It will list exact place of marriage, fathers' occupations and residences of bride and groom at time of marriage. Civil index is online- it's page 743 in civil register. James' father was Robert Hill (according to a submitted I.G.I. record his mother was Jane Wright and also that James died 3 Jan.1897, Sarah died 20 Sept.1902).

Thank you for your reply and yes I do have the info on James's parents. I actually realised my mistake after I had submitted it about the area. I don't have the certificate, the info is from his army paybook, I probably need a cert. Thanks Evelyn

Should also add a warning to be careful when finding a record of 'Noble Armstrong' not to assume it's the one married to Barbara Montgomery as there were quite a few Noble Armstrongs in Ireland over the years.

Any idea where how Christian name Noble came about? I'm assuming it is via a surname?

Have no idea but the name has come down the family

Just a note in ref to your question about "Noble" as a first name. In my "Armstrong" family...many children...besides following the "Traditional" naming pattern (since there were so many children) also gave children the first name of "Surnames" in the family. Ex. One son was named Montgomery Armatrong because his mother's maiden name was Montgomery. Another son was named Jardine Armstrong and the name Jardine was the maiden name of his grandmother (father's mother). This helped me in finding back relatives. Since Noble was a definite surname...I would look into this. Of course it also could be they named him that as a comnpliment to someone named "Noble" who helped the family - which ALSO happened- BUT I would look into it first as a relative!

Hi. I am not sure if he,s relevant but there is a Robert noble Armstrong who worked at belmore house in framanagh. I think a distant ancestor of mine. If you Google belmore house and his name he crops up a few times in a book on Google books about the belmore estate. Also William Armstrong.
