query Dodd family
« on: Wednesday 26 May 10 10:41 BST (UK) »
Dont know a lot about this family other than the following:

William Henry Dodd married Maud Holmes in 1911
He was either a train driver or an engineer,
I think the marriage is in Sleaford.   Now this is 3rd hand research... so I may be able to find more.

If anyone can help at all that would be great.

Xin

Two children born to Dodds, mother maiden name Holmes
Daisy C H Dodd Registration Dec 1/4 1911 Sleaford vol 7a page 783
Ernest V Dodd Reg June 1913 Sleaford vol 7a page 868
These are the only two that show up between 1911-1930

I am not having any luck finding a suitable candidate for William or Maud on the census using Lincolnshire as place of residence and there are too many if leaving Lincolnshire off. The marriage certificate would be a help in giving William Henry's father's name to narrow it down.

Thanks Crisane,
I know that its a difficult one... I imagine, though I dont know for sure, that William came from Lancashire way   but thats only a surmise... due to an awful lot of families coming down to Warwickshire from around that way for the Railways...   I am nagging for more info  appreciate what you have given so far.

Hi both,

The marriage for Daisy was in Rugby district in 1938 I believe, Crisane.

Also in Rugby district, there are these deaths:
Maud Dodd, Dec 1948, age 64
William H Dodd, Mar 1954 age 74

There's a possible Maud Holmes born ca. 1884 Skegness on the 1891 and 1901 censuses.

I was working on the theory that this could be William:
birth William Henry Dodd, Mar 1880, Rugby 6d 580
The 1891 census tells me he was born in Willoughby Warwickshire
(also 1881: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=22824309)

The index here www.1911census.co.uk finds a William Dodd born ca. 1880 in Willoughby, living in Lincoln district. I have a feeling that the full record might tell us he was in the same household as a Maud Dodd born ca. 1884 and a child Fredrick Holmes Dodd age 8.
