Looking for information of the children of Joseph Crawford born c1868 married 15 Nov 1901 St Annes Church of Ireland to Margaret Lilley/Lilly of Cairncastle Larne Antrim
The 1911 census for Lisnahay South lists
Leah, other name Elizabeth, Joseph, William Hugh, & Jenny or Jeanie or Jane Crawford.

Hi my name is Gerald Mavor Bell, i am the GRAND-SON of Margaret Crawford. She was born on 21st May 1914 and married my Grand Father William Rosslyn Bell in 1937. She went to India as a young woman and worked as a Governess as far as i can tell, then returned to Northern Ireland at some point and met my grandfather, She then moved to Bangor Co Down where she lived until she died. My Gran brought me up and i was very close to her. Sadly she was the last of all Joseph Crawfords children to die on te 25th November 2004. Her sister Nellie died a few years before that of Alzhiemers as did her husband Andrew MaDeol, ( i check spelling of surname).  Nellie had 2 children,  They both still live in Larne.  Jenny died in 1986 after a stroke, i knew her to as i used to visit her and Nellie with my Gran when i was a child. Jenny had 2 daughters who still live in the Ballygally area,I,m actually looking in to my family history hence finding this message from you, funy enough i have been trying to locate a grand uncle of mine who i,m named after who left N ireland in 1923 and went to Australia. He joined the 2/18TH A.I.F and died on the 8th Feb 1942 when Singapore fell to the Japs in W.W.2. I know he must have lived in the N.S.W area as he enlisted in TAMWORTH and EAST MOREE is mentioned. I also remember my ran talking about the LILLEY name. I hope this helps, please get in touch, regards Gerald

Hi,

I'm researching my Crawford family from Cairncastle, as far as I can make out they were from Lisnahay South. I'd love to exchange info to see if we tie up.

Hi Gerald,

Your email address was removed by the moderator.

I'm fairly confident that my Great granfather William Thomas Crawford was born 21 South Lisnahay in 1836. His father John is shown in the 1834 tithes at that address, John would have been 23 years old at that time. I've made the assumption that the other Crawford's around him in South Lisnahay are close relatives but I don't have any proof. Can you add anything?

David

To David & Gerald
The Joseph Crawford of interest from me was born on the 7 July 1868 if correct one his parents were Joseph Crawford born c1829 married on the 3 Nov 1854 Ballycarry Pres Templecorran Larne to Jane Gingles born c 1832.  Her father was Andrew Gingles from Kilwaughter.
Joseph Crawford born 1829 his father was William Crawford a farmer from Carncastle.  Looking at the 1851 census for Lisnahay South Townland Carncastle no 4.  I figure that this family listed below could be the family of interest to Gerald and myself.
William Crawford, Head, M, 78 (born 1773) a Farmer Ant.
Margaret Crawford, wife, M, 67, None, Ant.
Joseph Crawford, son, U, 22 (born 1829) Farmer, Ant
If you check the 1851 census for this area there are quite a few Crawfords so it is a possibility they are related.  Again we have no proof to connect these but families did live close to each other.

Joseph and Jane Crawford list of children found so far are as:
Jane Crawford born 28 March 1866 Larne
Joseph Crawford born 7 July 1868 Larne
William Moore Crawford 29 Sept 1870 Larne
Matilda Crawford married to Thomas roger Johnston on the 28 June 1898 Carrickfergus 1st Pres Carrickfergus Larne. 1901 Census has them living house 3 Lisnahay South.
I am not sure if they had a brother Daniel Crawford who married Mary Mcauley Allen on the 1907 Cairncast C/Ire belonging to another part of the Lilley family of interest.  His father was listed as Joseph Crawford but as a labourer.
Not sure if this would be of help to you David so wonder if any of these other names are familiar to you.
Kind regards
Heather

Hi Heather,

Thanks for the info I had most of it but there was a couple of bits I didn't have. In the tithing records for 1834 for South Lisnahay there's 4 Crawford's listed two Williams a Samuel and John. I've assumed that one of the William's is the father and the others are his son's. I believe the John is my ancestor.

I'm trying to build a data base of all the Crawford's in the Larne area once I've done a bit more I'll set up a web site and see what else turns up.

I've also tried to establish when the Crawford's arrived in the area, I'm guessing that they all stem from the same source, which appears to be a branch of the Cloberhill Crawford's based on the coats of arms on a couple of graves in Raloo and St Patrick's in Cairncastle. Any thoughts?

David
