I cant be more help but I just wanted to say I can totally sympathise as I have the opposite problem!  All my irish relatives who came to Scotland are always just listed as place of birth Ireland so I can get nowhere with my Irish search with the lack of cenus records etc in Ireland.  Hope you have more luck eventually the other way round!
McIntyre and MacInnes, Argyll (mostly Glencoe, Ballachulish, Oban)
McGillivray, Robertson - Sleat, Skye
Sandilands, McNaughton - Abernethy, Perthshire
McCartney - Glasgow, Northern Ireland
Rafferty - Northern Ireland
Doig - Fife

I know this is an older thread but there is are still new searchers looking into this as well...
( another thread here ) http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=392293.0
In case this turns out to be the correct parents:

Furthermore to the census finds in Aberdeen.....Does Kennethmont= Kinneathner?

There is a birth for a John Simpson March 7 1858 / Rhynie & Essie, Aberdeen...
Parents are William Simpson & Anne Beattie  https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYTL-J81

and this marriage: William Simpson, spouse Anne Beattie - married Nov. 16 1848 Kennethmont,
Aberdeen, Scotland   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTRW-TTG

Looks to be the family found in 1861 census by rainbowuk, as here are Christenings for an Anne 1853, James 1851, & Robert 1849    http://www.rootschat.com/links/01frf/

(also see a Jane Simpson  March 14 1863 Kennethmont mother Anne Simpson)

Just realized though, that William jr. would likely have been from a different mother/ previous marriage, perhaps died in childbirth??
There is also an Alexander Simpson christened March 10 1847 Kennethmont / father William Simpson & mother down as only Petrie
