Lochwinnoch: which Alexander Blackburn is mine
« on: Saturday 29 May 10 03:15 BST (UK) »
Alexander Blackburn married Jean McIntosh 18-12-1847 Lochwinnoch Renfrew
their children John, Jean, Ann, Margaret maybe more - I think his parents were John Blackburn and Ann Wallace my cousin thinks they're William Blackburn and Agnes Thomson their marriage on the OPR show no parents.  Who's right?
I think I'm right because his birth from the 1861 census is about 1818 and his children's names are John and Ann etc. But I have no hard proof.

waiting hopefully Shaza

Hi shaza
There are a few births on IGI (parents) John Blackburn and Ann Wallace
all born Lochwinnoch
I can't see any for John Blackburn and Agnes Thomson
but the death certs (if they lived later than 1855) may contain the parents names
if the informant knew the family details

Elaine - I can't find his death!!!!!!!! Can you help me? I know he was dead before his daughters marriage in 1879 and his wife Jean McIntosh died 24th Jan 1883 Greenock (found that in the Greenock Telegraph) Last time looking for a death I got caught out with a place name I'd never heard of. Part of the trouble with being on the opposite side of the world.

Cheers Shaza

 ;D   A lively one!

Did Alexander die in 1861 BEFORE the Census?   Does it show his
age at death?

Ahhh now I see more, you say he died in July - isn't the Census normally in April? So chances are he is alive and that was indeed him!

I found a researcher on GenesReunited who featured Alexander in her tree as being son of William and Agnes Thomson : baptised 6 Jan 1828 Paisley Abbey
IGI : Batch     7114614

BUT as you say, if the other info stacks up, there is another one
IGI : Batch     C115704
showing birth 24 DEC 1818       Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, Scotland
parents John Blackburn and Ann Wallace.
and their info on the LDS site is : -

Marriage : 23 Nov 1799                Lochwinnock, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

Children:

Margaret     b.1800
John             b.1801
James          b.1803
Elizabeth     b.1805
Alexander    b.1818
