If correct Ernest was in the army in WW1 it states him as a journalist there's records on ancestry giving Charlotte next of kin and also there address at the time its states the year as 1917. It also states that Ernest was from Essex England, born the 25th October 1882

P.s on a 1962 voters list there is a Mrs Ernest Witte in Notre-Dame-de-Grāce District living with another lady by the same last name so maybe a child?

Hi again.

Are you using Ances**y? Look under Charlotte Hector.

Nice one PB  :) I must say some major squinting was involved trying to read that marriage,
well done.

From Lisa's find of Ernest/Cecil's WW1 Attestation Papers, Library and Archives Canada is
in the process of digitizing complete files which when completed you will be able to see them
for free. ;D  They are presently on the letter G.

Thought it might be a good idea to split this so, I've just suggested to the moderator that this post be split, as it is about two different subjects.

Cheers,
DB

Thanks, Lisa, DB and PB

I really appreciate all your help.  Based in the UK, I use Find My Past but the link with Montreal is intruiging.  If you come across anything more about the St Vincent Home in Montreal or Charles and Susan Hector's children who may have been sent there - Blanche, Adnas, Charlotte, Ernest and Joseph, please let me know.

By the way, "Hector" wasn't his real name - according to the UK 1891 Census he became a naturalised UK citizen but it is thought that he came from France (Le Havre?) originally.  His original family name was thought to be Matrier or similar.

Kind regards,

Ian

.........I haven't yet been able to find them in the 1921 census nor any children so far.

Not sure if these are the right couple in 1921 - the ages are a bit out and one of the immigration dates is wrong. They are transcribed as Ernest Willy and Charlotte Willy. On the original image it looks like the surname is Witty. Still no children showing.

1921 Census - Quebec / Montreal (Jacques-Cartier-Lachine) / Sub-District 31 - Notre Dame de Graces Ward / Image 12 of 107.

Thanks, Sami

The Voter List provided by Lisa suggests Ernest and Charlotte may have had a daughter Hilda.  I've signed up to Ancestry for a month whilst I try and track down what happened to the Hector children who were (literally) shipped over to Canada by the LCCPS.

I've also found a record of Blanche Hector who travelled to Montreal aged 24 in 1907 with a 6-year-old daughter Susan in tow.  UK records show Charles and Susan (Snr) had a daughter Blanche b.1881 which seems close enough for those times.  She wasn't travelling under the auspices of the LCCPS.  Maybe she was looking for her siblings.

The search continues.

Kind regards,

Ian
