Hello NG,

Do you have details of her marriage to John Pringle Nichol in 1853?
The Darlington Index indicates it was a Register Office wedding but I suspect it might be a Quaker wedding where the Sup Registrar had to be present. That would give her father's name, unless you already have that from the 1841 or 1851 census.

Hello again Colin.

Elizabeth was ousted from the Quakers because she married Nichol.  It broke her heart but she was very much in love with JP Nichol.  She was married in an independent chapel in the town.  Her biographer quoted her diary which states that she was married in 'an Independent Chapel by Dr Robert Lee.'

Her father is very elusive in 1841.  As yet I cannot find him.  He did a lot of work for anti slavery and the cause of the Indians who were sent to replace the black slaves who were emancipated.  He also did a lot of work protesting against the Corn Laws at the beginning of the century.  He is mainly forgotten or mistaken for his nephew (Edward Pease's son) who became the first Quaker MP.

He died in 1846.

Yours NG.

Hi NG,

The Pease death in 1846 at Darlington was Joseph, but the first Quaker MP was the Joseph who died in 1872. If you check this out I think you might have the wrong death date, and daughter Elizabeth is mentioned  :) :)

I'm not sure of the correct procedure, but perhaps it would be better if this was moved to the Durham Board by the Mods  ???

Hello Colin.

Yes, as I have said, many people do mistake the two Joseph Pease men.

Not me though.

EPN's father died in 1846.

Yours NG.

Good for you NG  :D

I haven't looked into the Pease families so if there is anything I can check out just give a shout.
