Help reading gravestone
« on: Tuesday 08 June 10 01:28 BST (UK) »
When I looked at this headstone I transcribed most of it, it seemed quite visible at the time even though the photo doesn't look like it. Some of the numbers I kind of guessed on, they were hard to make out. But at the bottom of the headstone there were a few lines that I could not make out. I realise the grass is covering much of it but if anyone could help make it out that would be great.

To the Memory of
SARAH ANN HARRIS
who died Nov 13th 1827
aged 5 months
--
ANN DAY HARRIS
who died Jan – 1st 1834
aged 4 years
--
JOHN HARRIS
who died Jan – 2nd 1834
aged 2 years
--
WILLIAM HARRIS
who died Nov 26th 1849
aged 8 years
--
Also SARAH...............
.......................HARRIS
..............................

Edit: As I reduced the big photo it went really blurry for some reason, so I included another with just the part I can't read at full resolution.

Thanks Karen, somehow I missed your reply - didn't get an email.

I can see now it is definitely Sarah something Hannah. Either SARAH ANN HANNAH or SARAH AND HANNAH. And there must be another word before the HARRIS. I know it is very difficult with all the moss but can anyone read what that word is??

Going through my notes, besides the other children already mentioned on the stone, there were children Sarah Ann (d.1825), Hannah (d.1828), Ann (d.1839), and Sarah (d.1858). Maybe it could refer to any of them? It's so sad, they had nine children and only one survived to adulthood.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Sometimes I find that when a photo is difficult to read, tweaking it in Paintshop or Photoshop or similar can help?
For example, making the image a negative, changing the brightness/contrast, making it greyscale etc etc.
