The Mary McKernan you refer to was listed with the Gardiner family and described as a cousin on the 1900 census - Gardiners were under Gardince on a separate thread. Nothing to identify Mary in later census.

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for all your help.
I have got another piece of the jigsaw for Mary McKernan she is 19 which is the right year of her birth.  She is listed as Mary Kiernan

Given Name:   Mary
Surname:   Kiernan
Last Place of Residence:   Ireland
Event Date:   14 Oct 1896
Age:   19
Nationality:   Ireland
Departure Port:   Glasgow
Arrival Port:   New York
Gender:   Female
Marital Status:
Citizenship Status:
Ship Name:   State of Nebraska
Citing this Record:
"New York Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island), 1892-1924," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JX7V-FPY : 6 December 2014), Mary Kiernan, 14 Oct 1896; citing departure port Glasgow, arrival port New York, ship name State of Nebraska, NARA microfilm publication T715 and M237 (Washington D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Is there anything more that can be done with this?

Thanks for all your help as always

Kieran

Sadly those earlier passenger lists sometimes do not show enough information to positively identify someone - this doesn't state where she was born or any parents names which would have helped.
Doesn't seem to be travelling with a companion.
