St Elphins Church Warrington
« on: Saturday 12 June 10 18:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Is there anyone around that lives near St Elphins Church please?

Most of my Bibby & Savage families were parishoners here, I have Christenings, Marriages and Burials there.

Does anyone know what condition the gravestones are in?

I cant get there very easily, so I wanted to see what condition the graves are in before I persuade someone to take me.
I looked on Google to see if I could tell, I can see there are some headstones standing, but as the church is set back from the road you cant actually 'look' in from Google Street view.

Thanks

Gaille

Hi Gaille.
My name is Andy Bibby
You were looking for info on Edward Charles Bibby 1888-1899 he is buried in Warrington cemetery. He was the first born of Edward Bibby 1875-1955 and Lizzie (Goult) 1877-1951
There are 8 persons in the grave. Edward and Lizzie 2nd son Alfred 1900-1990 married to May Eleanor Savage 1901-1988 was my grandfather and grandmother.
 Regards Andy.

Virtually all the headstones in St. Elphin's churchyard were removed to make maintenance easier.

A few were used to make paths, but the text from those is inevitably being worn away, so you need to be really lucky to find any relative.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
