Newcastle Turnes or Turner
« on: Saturday 19 June 10 14:13 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the birth and parents of Elizabeth Ann Turnes or Turner.

She is believed born 1846 in Byker, and may have also had a middle name of Henderson.
Her father i thought to be Robert b c1823 in Bill Quay.
She married a William Palmer in Hartlepool in 1865 a sailor from Devon who died shortly after. No further information about parents or husband.

Any help please,
Regards
CB

Marriages June qtr 1865

William Palmer    Hartlepool  10a 189
Elizabeth Henderson Turner     Hartlepool  10a 189

There is an 1851 entry for an Elizabeth Turns b 1848 Byker  parents Robert & Elizabeth.  The family are living in Southwick Durham

You really need a copy of the marriage cert to confirm her fathers name as the GRO index confirms her surname as Turner not Turnes

The IGI Pilot site shows the date as 5.4.1865 at Holy Trinity Hartlepool and her surname is Turnes

Thank you both.
Carole, I have managed today to establish that her fathers name was Robert and that it is believed he was a Bottle Maker. Does the 1851 give Roberts occupation?
If not then i will have to order the Certificate. I'm also guessing that her mother was possibly Elizabeth or Ann Henderson.

Regards
Chris.

Tees Valley Indexes site has William Palmer marrying Elizabeth H Twines in Hartlepool in 1865. These are transcribed from the original registers, the letters "ur" could have been mistaken for "wi".

This is Robert and family in 1861, conveniently living in Hartlepool, Robert remarried.

Middleton, Stranton,
Robert Turns, mar, 38, Bottle Maker, b. Durham, Bill Key,
Mary Turns, wife, 28, b. Durham, Bill Key,
Elizabeth Turns, dau, 15, Bottle Tellier, b. Northumberland,
Andrew Turns, son, 12, Bottle Maker, b. Northumberland,
Robert Turns, son, 10, Bottle Maker, b. Durham, Sunderland.

Thanks Alan,
I now have about 4 different spellings of their surname. Apart from that and Robert giving Bill Quay, South Shields and Southwick as birth places, I am confident this is the family.
I have Found Elizabeth Henderson, his first wife and mother of Elizabeth Ann Henderson Turnes.
The dates on the census from yourself and Carol also match, so i am now happy to proceed with and confirm this line.
Thank you both,
Regards
Chris.
