Hi :)

if you have the death cert. for the 1945 death you'll have the exact date of  death.  Why not see if local archived papers forthat region have an obit or a death/funeral notice.  the funeral notice should state the place of burial.

This is where I'd start.

Hi sarnia,

Try sending West Lothian Council an e-mail or give them a ring.

See here for details: http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/tourism/attractions/history-culture/Memorialsandmonuments

Good Luck!

Hi Sarnia,

To add to what Anne has said, West Lothian Local Studies Library is in Blackburn and hold microfilm copies of the West Lothian Courier and (if I remember correctly) the Midlothian Advertiser - the indexes for both can be searched on the West Lothian website under the local history section.

Best wishes

Hello Again,

I replied to your post ref  your Section & Lair no for Thomas Calder, but I just noticed this post, Thomas was a Scavenger, not Lawyer, states that on his DC.   James Calder and Mary Findlay are in Section D Lair 59 in West Calder Cemetery.  I've never seen a headstone for them either.    James was a Hawker.  I have their burial details.

The cemetery was extensively damaged twice over the last 20 years and many headstones were damaged and removed by the council.

Donna at West Lothian Council will arrange for the plot to be highlighted for you, when next you are going to visit.

cheers ...  Meg

Do you have pictures in Whitburn Cemetery? Would like a picture of my gr-gr-grandfathers head stone, John Cunningham if you do. He is in section c, lair 30 if this helps He is also buried with his daughter Euphemia and a woman susan Brewton Purdid,Pryde,or Purdie. unsure how the last name is spelled. I live in the states so it is hard for me to get a copy of his head stone.  Thank you so much.
