Martha Leay of Upton & Hoose

Hi,I'm looking for anything on Martha Leay,going off the 1881 census she was born in Upton,abt 1811,I have her marring Thomas Sherlock at St. Nicholas's,Liverpool on the 5th Aug.1832,Thomas died 1861,their child Margaret,only child I think,had Martha Ann Sherlock 25 Dec.1849,my great grandmother.Going back to Martha Leay,I can't find anymore about her can anyone help please. Christened 3rd February 1850 in West Kirby...submitted record on familysearch.org

on cheshirebmd.org.uk it has

Martha Ann Sherlock 1849   Woodchurch ,  Wirral ,   WOO/5/35

I can`t find any record of Martha Leay - Upton 1811 time period....sorry.......allan

According to Lancashire OPC at the time of their marriage: Thomas Sherlock, Fisherman of Liverpool & Martha Leay - Spinster of Liverpool.

Looking at the Census 41-81 Martha seems to suggest she is from the Upton area of Cheshire.

Cannot find any baptism for Martha Ann Sherlock on the 'Cheshire Parish Register Project' which would seem to cast doubt on the baptism in West Kirby in 1850.

I've come across the name Leay in Bidston registers, but not much elsewhere, but the name could be Lea, Leigh.

I did notice that in 1851 a Elizabeth Leay is with the family born, New Brighton. a visitor. born 1843 Wallasey (Cheshire BMD).

Yes,I  found the wedding in St.Nicholas's,thanks to garstonite for putting me onto that site,but alot of my family,Eccles and Sherlock,married in Liverpool,but lived on the Wirral,I noticed postings on this site about the same thing.James C.

Martha Lay bt. 28th Feb 1813 to John Lay & Margaret Upton (Overchurch) Cheshire

There is a John & Margaret Leay on the 1841 census in Upton and a marriage on CPR Project of a John Lea and a Margaret Lee in 1807 at West Kirkby
