SA BDM lookup if possible please
« on: Wednesday 07 July 10 16:23 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm researching the AUL (AUHL) family and I have a record of a Maria AUL (AUHL) marrying an Adolph J Neuman on 6th April 1846 at the Holy Trinity Church Adelaide ref ADE 1/233.  There are no records of the parents or age for the bride and groom.

There might be a Dorothea in the name as well

I believe that this Miss AUHL came out to SA in 1846 on the George Washington along with Adolph Neumann.

If anyone has easy access to SA BDM records could they please see if there is a death notice for a Maria Neumann or Dorothea Neumann or Dorothea Maria Neumann or Maria Dorothea Neumann with a mother Maria Pruter and or Father Friedrick AUL.

There also might be only one N at the end on Neumann.

Thanks Gerry

Kris,

Thanks again for your excellent assistance, you have confirmed this AUHL connection for me.

Just for interest I had some success searching the 1819 Mecklenberg-Schwerin Sensus for the District of Detershagen.  Even though it was in German the names and birth dates etc were easily legible and I was able to find good information from this document.

Regards

Gerry

Kris,

If possible could you check a marriage and death for a Sophia Maria Bitter for me please.

Sophia (16) came out on the Peter Godeffroy in 1857 with her two brothers Johann & Franz Bitter from Detershagen Germany.

I have an unconfirmed note that says Sophia married a Johann Adolph RASMUS maybe around 1862!

Sophies's parents would have been Adam Christian (Carl) BITTER and Dorothea Catherina Elisabeth JENSS or JESSEN

Regards

Gerry

There is this record and the only female DITTER marriage record - possibly mistranscribed.

RASMUS Johann Adolph  23 years  Status not known  Father Nicolaus RASMUS
DITTER Sophia Marie  20 years  Status not known  Father Johann DITTER
7 Mar 1862
At the residence of Mr Liebig, Greenock  Bar/369

Deaths
RASMUS Sophia
7 Dec 1910  69 years  Married  Relative John Adolph RASMUS [Husband]
Residence Ucolta  Death Place Ucolta    Fro/353/469

RASMUS John Adolph
7 Jul 1917  78 years  Married  Relative H W RASMUS [Son]
Residence Nr Peterborough  Death Place Nr Peterborough  Fro 411/298

The reg states he was married at time of death but I can't see a 2nd marriage on the indexes.

Thanks Cando,

Firstly, for the great information you have provided and secondly for finding the trascription error, a good find .

Ucolta is near Peterborough.

Interesting about the marriage at the time of death!

Gerry

I think the Status Married could be an error.  His son was giving the information and perhaps he was asked....was your father married?   Perhaps the question wasn't asked about his wife being living or deceased.  Information on death certificates is often inaccurate.

Cando,

I have been trying to find anything on a Christof Jochim Fritz BITTER who came out with his mother Dorothea Sophia Bitter on the President Smidt in 1848, Christof was 2 years old.

I was thinking maybe Christof's surname became AUHL instead of BITTER once sophia married Heinrich Christian AUHL (AUL) in September 1848.  ( came out on the same  vessel and was from the same village, Detershagen)

If possible could you check if there is any reference to a Christof Jochim Fritz AUHL either getting married or dying.

I know that Christian, Sophia and most of the children headed for Wodonga around 1869 so this would have made Christof around 22 and he probably didn't go.

It's a long shot but a possibility.

Thanks Gerry
