help to find Neil McKay/MacKay please
« on: Wednesday 14 July 10 03:38 BST (UK) »
Help please.

I am looking for information on Neil McKay/MacKay.
So far I have found he was born in Latheron but no year.
His marriage record shows he was a corporal in 78th of Foot in 1817 when he married Jean Aitken in Perth.
The record from the 78th of Foot shows 2 Neil McKay’s but only one was a corporal at the time stationed in Perth.  That one was born in Latheron and was a cooper.
I have no other information but the 2 children I have found so far were named Williamina (1819) and Neil (1821).
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to go from here.

Thanks,
I really have no further information.  Thought someone might have him as a side shoot to their tree.  I could not find him in the 1841 census.  I have only found the 2 children Williamina (could she have been named after his father) and Neil.  He was married in 1817 as an adult and no age is given.

In 1813 he was in 2nd Division, 78th regiment and left Aberdeen for Low Countries 31st December.  He was discharged in December 1820.  His military records have not survived, this information came from muster rolls and gives very little personal information.

I do not know but I can't find either of them in the 1841 census so think it is before that.
