Emigration - Samuel McCune 1850's
« on: Sunday 18 July 10 20:48 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information to support the emigration of Samuel McCune (b. 3 May 1834, Down Ireland) from Ireland to Canada.

The family story is that he emigrated to Canada around 1855, to elope with Eliza McKee, and they were supposedly married 5 Sep 1855 in Canada.

I have been unable to find any records to support this.

Also, he and Eliza emigrated from Canada to Michigan prior to 1860, but I have been unable to find any records to support this also.

Samuel McCune is my great great great grandfather.  From a census record I calculated that they came to Big Rapids Michigan in 1857. I have tried to find their point of entry to no avail.  On Samuel’s death certificate it says his father was David McCune.

Which census info pointed you to 1857 for Samuel's immigration to Michigan?  From a letter held by a descendant of Abbie (McCune) Bennett, I surmised that Samuel's father was James McCune, from Ravara, Ballygowan, County Down Ireland.  I have posted a copy of James McCune's will from PRONI, which also references his son Samuel, and Samuel's son James.
I am a descendant of Samuel's son David McCune.

I had seen the Tithe listing in my research. I was thinking the two McCunes from Ravara in 1833 were likely brothers.  The James McCune I believe is my ancestor.  I have a tree also for the William McCune, and met one of his descendants in Ballygowan a few years ago.  I have also found their wills from the Proni site.

Supposedly son James was born in april 1856 in Newaygo MI, so immigration must have happened before this ….
