Unfortunatley "of this parish" means that both lived there at least 3 weeks I believe.  Doesn't mean born there.  By living there they would not have to post banns in two places.

Hi Diddy,
I have Carter ancestors from there too.  In fact if your ancestor was John Carter (1776-1851) my 5th Great Grandfather, parents Thomas Carter and Isabel Wilkin then we are related, Yea! I am on ancestry and have managed to get back to Thomas Carter's (1754-1821) parents who are John Carter(1715-1765) and his wife Mary Weyman(1720-?)

Hi Diddy,
MMM  The early years I have are slightly different but the fact you have a Reed Carter which is unusual points to the same family.

You posted :
my line forwards from John 1713 - Thomas Carter 1751 - John Carter 1776- Reed carter 1805 - Ann Carter

My Line is :
JOHN CARTER CoxGreen 1715 - THOMAS CARTER Coxgreen 1754 - JOHN CARTER Coxgreen 1776 - THOMAS CARTER Coxgreen 1797 (mother Ann Taylor 1st wife of John Carter, your ancestor is Reed Carter, mother Catherine Reed 2nd wife of John Carter) - THOMAS  CARTER Coxgreen 1818 - JOHN CARTER Durham 1841  - JANE CARTER 1865 (my great Grandmother)

Not exactly sure how that makes us related.  Are you in Ancestry?

Hi all! I recently got into tracing my family on my mother’s side. They are mostly from Barbados but before that lived in Staffordshire and Durham.  I also have the Carters of Cox Green in my family tree. I have John Carter who married Catherine Reed, and John’s father Thomas Carter and his father John Carter (b. 1715 married Mary Weyman) and his father Cornelius Carter. I have no info on Cornelius so just thought I’d join this chat to see if anything has sourced since your last conversation.

Finding this entire process fascinating
