Hi

Well done Ray, I think you have just about covered it. ;D

Mike,

I did find the Golden Cross pub on the 1851 & your Green family all situated along what is now the Uxbridge Road as Ray has described.

If you would like to see a picture of the Vine PH have a look at Chris Reynolds site http://www.hertfordshire-genealogy.co.uk/!-home-frame.htm , he has a page on Mill End & Rickmansworth. The Vine is the building with the words "ford ales" on the side, the sign with the Crown on is actually for the Rose & Crown on the opposite side of Church Lane.

If you need anything else just shout. ;)

Regards
Maddie

So, in effect there was 3 pubs on that Uxbridge Road / Church Lane (T-)junction.

Proceeding westwards along the Uxbridge Road, before you hit the "Tannery" and Whip&Collar, was a brewery......................

I would like to thank you Ray and Maddie for all this information, being retired in Spain now the description took me onto childhood memories visiting family in Mill End from Middlesbrough in the North of England, especially that junction Uxbridge Road/Church Lane, which I remember well, but not the petrol station. You have solved my mystery.

Once again thank you very much

More recent planning appplications has reduced the pub to "1 room"  ;D ;D well, not much more.
