« on: Tuesday 20 July 10 20:21 BST (UK) »
Looking for son of Esther Anne Orridge, born 1880 scalford.     Esther married walter W Steans b 1880 also in Scalford, in 1900 Melton mowbray.  Son was illigitimate and thought to be named Peter.  Esther and walter died in Grantham Lincs.  Would like anything to confirm correct info.

Hello JS,
Any idea when & where this son was born?
I see from 1911 census he wasn't with Esther & Walter, and on  1901 census both Esther's parents were dead, so he wasn't with his grandparents.
This is 1911 census
South Witham Grantham Lincs
Steans Walter ages 31yrs Lime Quarryman Delver born Scalford
Steans Esther Ann married 10yrs aged 30 Scalford
Steans Olive Gwendoline aged 7yrs Scalford
Steans Archibald Walton aged 5yrs Scalford
Steans Alfred George aged  2  Scalford
Steans Mary Emma aged 1 South Witham

I presume this son you are trying to trace would have been born between 1895 when Esther was about 15 and before  she married in 1900?

No sign of another son in 1901

Rg13 3013 149 10

Sandy Lane, Scalford
Walter 21 bn Scalford
Esther 20 wife bn Scalford

neighbours include a John and Elisa? Orridge aged 49 and 50 - maybe Esther's parents? they also have an elderly fatherinlaw with them, Thomas Parker, so you may be lucky and have 3 generations on one census page.

another neighbour is widow Emma Steans age 56 - maybe Walters mum? with a 17 yr old dtr Louisa, and a 5 yr old grandaughter Gwendoline with her

Green - Suffolk
Parker - Sussex
Kemp - Essex
Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Totally lost now.  according to cousins tree, it was Elsie orridge b1905 who had son Peter.  Does not show birth place but probably Melton Mowbray. Somebody got dates wrong as peters birth was down as 1906.  Esther Ann was aunt to Elsie.

Thanks for help

Hi JS,
So if you think Peter was Elsies,  b1905, son, he must have been born much later. A quick look on Freebmd does give one possible result. Obviously you cant post any details of possibly living persons.
Best wishes

Hi..

My father was Peter John Orridge. His mother was Esther Orridge.. He was illegitimate, born in Scalford... but... He was born in 1931 and his mother Esther died in the late 60s.. I think.  All facts match but dates don't seem possible. I wonder..  I have also never heard of Walter Stearn.

My dad, Peter, married had six children, lived most of his life in Australia and died in 1981 at the age of 50.

Would love to find out more.

Also should add there was some recent question as to whether Esther was his mother.  The name Ann was mentioned as a possibility... I don't know of an Elsie.

Something else...

My father, Peter, had a stepfather Tom Bailey who was married (?) to Esther. They lived in Scalford.
