As part of my research into the casualties of WW2 from Widnes, I went to St Bedes Church on my last visit to record the names off the WW2 part of the memorial.  Both of the Flood brothers are commemorated on the small memorial at St Bedes, meaning that they attending that church or lived in that parish.  Chester Street would be no more than 2 mins walk from St bedes.

Hi
Thanks for the reply Yes the family did attend St Bedes church and Chester St is very near to.Do you have any WW1 details as I now have quite a lot on Joseph Flood but not much on Thomas.

This is all  I have on Thomas
I know he did not marry

died 7th July 1915
remembered Ypres (Menim Gate)
He was killed in action in Belgium aged 42
I wonder due to his age  had he been in the army before WW1

If you have any info please get in touch

Hi Carolyn, yes they are both on the Cenotaph in Victoria Park.  To get access you need to go to the office at the greenhouse, and they will open the gates for you.  The War Memorial at St Bedes is outside of the church as well, with easy access.

I only have the info that you have, as I originally sent it to Pete, who passed it on.

Hi Carolyn - I just noticed your post re James and Alice Flood.  My grandmother's sister was married to Joseph Flood.  They lived in Cross Street Widnes.  His wife never married again but I remember her vividly from childhood.  I was born in Widnes and lived there until I emigrated to Australia.

Hi Ellie
Thanks for your reply.
It is the same Flood family I am the get granddaughter of Joseph Floods sister Elizabeth who married James Brennan and lived in Chester St Widnes. I believe Joseph and his wife were a lovely couple. The Flood family lost one son a baby then two sons Joseph and Thomas in ww1 only John was left and as he did not marry the name died out.
Joseph died in a German hospital so he must have been a prisoner of war. Thomas has no known grave but his name is on the Menin gate memorial. I want ther a few years ago and left a poppy/cross with both their names on.
If you do have any information or photographs of Joseph and his wife I would love to see them.we only have one of his sister Elizabeth.
Kind regards
Carolyn
