what a shambles
« on: Thursday 31 March 05 22:02 BST (UK) »
Has anyone else had any experience with transcribing for freecen ?

What a absolute fiasco my experience has been,
I offered back in January to be a co-ordinator and transcribe and 2 months later and numerous fruitless emails later it seems that someone called Dave? still hasn't bothered to  order the fisches !
A lovely person called Brenda has worked her butt off trying to get things moving but it seems we have to wait untill Dave is good and ready and has the necessary form in the right font and colour and format and thickness blahdeblah

sorry to vent my splene but ooooh I'm angry >:(2 precious months  wasted

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with FreeCen. My experience has been excellent.

I haven't the time to be a coordinator, and that job for the counties I'm interested in has gone anyway. The coordinator for Flintshire and Denbighshire couldn't be better - we keep in constant email contact, as she lives in New Zealand. She has even organised a web site to keep up to date on progress:

There are still a couple of Welsh counties without a coordinator, so I'm sure if you offered ......... ;D

Hi all

I have an interest in Breconshire and noticed that there is no coordinator yet. I did think about offering but as I am in Kent I know very little about the area.

I wonder what the general view is of coordinators living miles from the area.

Hi Linda
I don't think it matters at all you are not in the area. You are only transcribing from Fiche or CDs on your home PC so you need know nothing about the area at all as far as I can see.
I am co-ordinating Prescot lancs but live in Somerset.

I would go ahead and volunteer before someone else does especially if you have an interest in the area.

Linda, as I mentioned in my msg, the coordinator for Flintshire and Denbighshire lives in New Zealand, so you couldn't really get much further away than that.

I'm pretty sure they will be more than happy to have people volunteering to be coordinators, so distance shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage.
