Collumhill?? Co' Longford? (McKeown)
« on: Monday 26 July 10 17:33 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am researching the life of a early player for Celtic Football Club as well as my Irish roots.

I have just uncovered a document which states;

Patrick McKeown &  Bridget Colligan. Married in Collumhill?? Co. Longford.

Does anyone have any idea where this place could be? I cannot see it anywhere on the web.

Thanks.

Also looking for Michael McKeown & Mary McCallum. Parents of Patrick McKeown b abt 1823.

Thanks.

Thanks Heywood,
Maybe my brain is pickled with all these places, names etc running about my head, but that search engine is pretty difficult to understand.
is there an option to enter in surnames?

Thanks.

No that is just to check the name of a townland. From that you get the civil parish and that may help in tracing names.

When (about) did your Patrick McKeown and Bridget Colligan marry?

If he is the one born abt 1823, then I suppose around 1850? That is a bit early for most records.

Sometimes, you can find relevant names in Griffiths Valuation - two sites here:

Could it be Columbkille parish?

Griffiths doesn't show any McKeown names but there are McOwen names in that parish.

Patrick McKeown &  Bridget Colligan. Married in Columbkille?? Co. Longford.

I believe this may be the people. As for when they were married it was in 1863.

Can you get a list of McOwen names?

Thanks for this heads up.

C.

Collumbkille is a Civil Parish in the Barony of Granard, containing 42 townlands.

C.

If you use the links to Griffiths you will be able to see them yourself.
'Failteromhat' site gives you the names and 'AskaboutIreland' site shows you the record which isn't much but has landowner etc.
They are reasonably easy to follow and have an explanation about the valuation.
