Yes I see what you mean about the dates Essie  ??? will work with that for the time being. Four of Alice's brothers (William, Abel, Frances, and Samuel)came to New Zealand to perhaps that is where the Courtenay boys ended up.

Many thanks to you both for your help, very much appreciated. I have a few more queries on this family but will do them in a separate post :)

just an update for anyone looking for Thomas Courtenay / Courtney's death found it on Trove as follows:

COURTNEY.-On the 20th August, at the Adelaide Hospital, after a painful illness, Thomas,
husband of the late Alice Courtney, aged 73 years. A colonist of 42 years.
