This, I think would be the remarriage of the wife (ex) in WA

EXELL, MARY J to TURNER ARTHUR  in PERTH reg. 810 in 1930.

This given name of the woman matches the female party in the separation proceedings in the WA paper (above).

Good work Sue  ;D

Link given by Sue
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/28166003?searchTerm="john stanley exell"
mentions wife Jane/Mary Jane. Court proceeding in Western Australia
but mentions that John Stanley Exell lives in South Australia

So is there is another marriage for John Stanley between Ellen 1903 and Hillergarde 1936  ???

Can't see one in South Australia.

I can't see a marriage, death or other children for a John William Exell/Excell/Exel/Excel either in South Australia apart from the death of a 10 year old daughter way back in 1848, which seems unlikely to be the one we're looking for.   :-\

Thank-you all for your replies,

We think he did marry again in 1914 in SA or ended up living there at some stage. We don't know if there was a third marriage. Unfortunately his marriage to Ellen lists his parents names as unknown which possibly suggests he was adopted or orphaned? Does anyone know how adoptions and orphanges worked in that era i.e 1880 ish?

Hi alelex,
Just wondering what else you already know to save unnecessary work from the helpers.

Always best to paint the fullest picture you can right at the outset ;)

Adoptions in the 1880's were generally informal, with there being no strict legal criteria in most states.
Often the arrangemants were made within families or friendship circles.

His father is clearly listed for his SA marriage. JOHN WILLIAM EXELL

The man you have found RAYLEN is the husband of MARY JANE.

It is just possible to discern the words "WANDERING TAILOR" in the descrption of his occupation in one of the West Australian newspaper summaries about the case, which is not yet digitised.  This can be seen on the website I have given
