** COMPLETED ** Pembrey Look Up Request - EVAN JONES
« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 08:50 BST (UK) »
Hi Listers

I have quite a collection of wrong birth certs for my gr-granddad so hoping someone may be able to do a Parish record look-up for me, based on the 1881 census advising a birth place of Pembrey and perhaps find him for me listed there.

The 1881 census [RG11; Piece: 5376; Folio: 93; Page: 26] indicates that Evan is 6 mths old and living at 'Erwfach', Pembrey, CAMS with his mother Margaret [surname unknown], father William JONES and siblings Sarah, David and John.

Gr-Grandad and family lived in Burry Port for most part of his life and after a shortish stint up in the big smoke of Swansea, died in 1950, at Achddu, Millport. He is buried with his wife in St peters, Cockett but there's no gravestone to give any other details.

Cheers
Lynda

Hi
Have tried to look at this in another way.
What do you think on this-
looking at the 1871 census Rg10 5469/11/16
Colliers Arms Pembrey
William Jones b 1850 llanelly carmarthenshire  coalminer
margaret Jones b 1848 b kidwelly carmarthenshire
sarah Janes daughter  b1870 4mths old Pembrey
the above info matches your 1881 census info

There are two possible births
Given that they say sarah jane is 4mths old
sarah Jane Jones  4th qtr 1870  vol 11a page 595 llanelly
sarah jane jones  4th qtr 1870 vol  11a  page 603 llanelly
(Census 1871  taken on 2nd April)
poss address time of birth Colliers Arms Pembrey
so there is a long shot that one of these girls where born at that address, bad luck if both have fathers William but good luck if only one has mother margaret.
Possible marriages
William Jones =m= Margaret Jones 4th qtr 1869 vol 11a page 937 Lanelly
(if wedding was not a shot gun marriage this is the marriage I would go for) Bad news if there are more Jone's!
William Jones =m=Margaret Davies 3rd qtr 1870 vol 11a page 861 llanelly

It can work in looking for a sibling then you are able to piece together who you are looking for. I have done this myself yes you  ;) ??? end up with two birth certificates but its in the same family.
 its worth a shot.
I hope this has helped you have fresh eyes on your family search
cheers cardiff

Hiya Cardiff :-)

Thanks for the tips in your first email -- I'll give that a shot and see how it pans out -- appreciate the alternate tack to follow...  Fingers crossed!

Yes I do -- my lot are via Francis Crandon married to Rachel Clement - they had 4 children - Beatrice Ellen, Frederick John, William Henry [d'cd infant] and Mary Annie "Nance" Crandon.  Francis' parent's being William J Crandon and Eleanor Hewlett.

Ring any bells for you??

Cheers

Hi
Thoes names don't ring a bell, a old friend of mine maiden name was Crandon she hailed from Cilfynydd, not sure where her dad was originally from, although the family lived in that area for well over 50 yrs

finally received marriage cert for the 1869 suggestion but unfortunately, not the right connection.  :(

There is a wee silver lining though as this cert has William Jones marrying Margaret Jones and both fathers are listed as being John Jones! Would have been a real hard road to follow this cert info up successfully so there's still hope ....

Back to the drawing board for me...

Cheers
