Culcheth - Glasebury - Winwick , Mills ?
« on: Sunday 15 August 10 13:06 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have  3 generations of the Silcock family working as weavers in silk & cotton
& oilers & greasers that lived in Fowley Common,Little London & Warrington Rd ,from about 1777-1900.

Can anyone tell me if there was one mill close to these addresses and any details about it or them? eg are they still standing ?

Any help please.

Martin Silcock.

Hi

There was a cotton mill at Culcheth called Daisy Bank Mill but I think it is long gone and the site has been redeveloped for housing.

Also there is information on this link:-

Hi, I live 2 miles away from Culcheth and don't recall there being any cotton mills there now.  There is a brick factory at Rixton that is still operational.  As mentioned before Daisy Bank Mill was in Culcheth, it closed in 1914.  Warrington as a whole was a Cotton Mill town.

Bury Lane is now Warrington Road.  Its the main road that runs through Culcheth from Risley to Glazebury.  Lovely Lane is in the centre of Warrington (Bewsey area) its the road in front of Warrington Hospital, its a long main road.

Thought you might like to see this link.

Daisy Bank mill in Common Lane Culcheth was working during WWII and beyond. There was also Beech Mill at the junction of Wgshaw Lane and Hob Hey Lane which was working in the 1920's. The chimney was felled about 1938.
