Albert Edward Ruddiman
« on: Monday 16 August 10 11:11 BST (UK) »
I am researching Albert Edward Ruddiman who married Clara Gordge in q4 1921 in Huddersfield. He is believed to have been away on military service in India for an unspecified number of years following this where some of his children were born and could be the Albert who died in Huddersfield in 1946. I can find no details of him anywhere in the UK prior to his marriage.

When / where was he born?

Getting the marriage cert would hopefully give a fathers name and therefore also help with tracing him earlier.

There is a James Ruddimanm on 1881, 1891, 1902 census , living in Widnes. He is from Scoltland.

On 1881 he is married, but single on others.

Also marriages for a James Ruddiman in Huddersfield and Dewsbury in 1906 and 1905.

If you need help finding these, let me know.

His Medal Index cards are on ancestry..he was number  8605 in the West Ridings...Looks like he also served with the West yorkshire Regiment and KOYLI.
He was awarded the 1914 star,Brit War and Victory medals also the Indian General Service medal with clasp Waziristan(1921) and Long Service and good conduct Medals.
His record may still be with MOD but will cost £30 to get a copy..sound like he was an old soldier with plenty of stories no doubt
You can find details of how to apply for his record on the Veterans agency website.

He also served with the 3rd Lahore Signal company
With a 1914 Star he may have been in UK so deployed to France with the  2nd Dukes. 1st Batt were in Lahore for the Duration of war.
