Edward and Margaret Jenning (1810-1880's)
« on: Tuesday 17 August 10 23:30 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on my 2nd Great-Grandparents Edward and Margaret Jennings. Both were born in St Pancras in 1810.
They may have married in St Pancras as their first 5 children were born there. Edward died 22 Jan 1884 in Middlesex.  The were owners of Friar's Lawn, originally known as Sunnyside, in Norwood Green. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Jeffery, welcome to rootschat.
Do you have any more to narrow the search?   You say 'their first 5 children were born there'.   Do you have names and approximate dates for the children, because this should make it easier to identify the family
Do you know Margaret's maiden name?

Based on what Keyboard has found, and assuming that's them, 4 of the children have baptism records at St Pancras Old Church

Looking at Christina Margaret's on 13 Feb 1841, they are living in Judd Street, and Edward is an Attorney?
Sarah Mary - 11 Feb 1842
Gertrude Elizabeth - 25 Jan 1844
Edward Cortland Dutton Jennings (wonderful name) - 30 March 1846
By Edward's baptism they had moved to Tunbridge Place

added: Sidney Arthur 18 Oct 1847, still living at Tunbridge Place
[sad sidelight - 9 days later, on 27 Oct 1847 at St Botolph's in Bishopsgate, there is another Edward and Margaret Jennings having their daughter Margaret baptised.  Their address, far from being an Attorney in Tunbridge Place, is the Workhouse.]

Probate granted 25 Feb 1884.
Will of Edward Jennings, Lincoln's Inn Chambers and Sunnyside, Norwood Green, Southall died 22 January 1884.   Will proved by Margaret Jennings, widow and sole executrix.
Personal estate £1,827. 16s. 11d.

If you don't have Margaret's maiden name I suggest you get hold of the birth certificate for  one of the later children, because that  may show it, and with that you may be able to find their marriage.   I had a very quick look but couldn't see any obvious Edward Jennings / Margaret xx marriages.

Keyboard, that's sad, poor little lad only lived 6 months or so.
I was fascinated by the Courtland Dutton bit and did a quick search to see if any Margaret Courtland / Margaret Dutton marriages turned up but couldn't see one.

Hi All,

These are the right Jennings. I am a distant cousin of Jefferey's! I know I am a few years behind on this one...

The only marriage documentation I can find, is from The Belfast Newsletter:

__Marriages___
On the 26 th, at St. George's Church, Belfast, by the Very Rev. the Dean of ?, Edward Jennings, Esq., Chancery-lane, to Margaret, youngest daughter of the late Mr. Jennings, of Tonbridge-place, London.

Could any of you help me move forward with this? I have tried ancestry.com searches for Mr. Jennings to no avail. I also have no clue as to why Edward is in Belfast, and why the two were married there, but there are too many coincidences to not investigate further!

Thank you,
Caitlin
