Hi Sue, I have just now sent you a PM which includes my email address.  Here is the bulk of the msg..
"Hi..I am absolutely stunned!  But this is the nature of ancestry research.  I have "stumbled" upon your posts and those trying to help you, whilst trying to find out about my Wood family.  William Ferrier Wood (m Margaret Baron) was my gg grandfather.  His son William Wood was my grandmother's father.  You live in Australia?  My grandmother (William Wood's daughter Daisy aka Margaret Baron Wood) migrated with her new husband to Australia  in 1908.  I will talk further to you hopefully. I really havent taken this all in yet.. Its too good to be true after all the time I have spent!  Kind Regards,

Sheryl

Hi Sheryl

Apologies for not replying earlier, my computer crashed and my husband is still in the process of rebuilding.  Thought I had lost everything but thankfully he was able to retrieve it all for me.  Some very valuable lessons learnt here.  I am thrilled to have found another branch of the family tree.  Like you this became a labour of love for me too when I retired (I am 64) it has taken a very long time and I am amazed at how addictive this is.  Looks like we are on the right track with our information so I will email you on the address you gave me very soon. Regards Sue

I believe that my partner is decended from William Ferrie Wood.

Andrew Wood (1780 - )
relationship to you: 4th great grandfather of husband
William Ferrie Wood (1814 - 1896)
Son of Andrew

George Wood (1844 - )
Son of William Ferrie

George Wood (1873 - )
Son of George

George Cecil Wood (1902 - 1984)
Son of George

John Cecil Wood (1942 - 2010)
Son of George Cecil

Some details deleted as they may relate to living people.

I've verified as much as I can and I'm sure about the William Ferrie Link, but had got stuck with Andrew (if indeed Andrew is true?

How fascinating this all is!

Hi Kirsty

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

I have taken off some details above as they likely relate to living people. RootsChat have a policy of only allowing ancestors' details to be included on the main boards - to protect living people's identity and privacy.

In a couple of posts' time, you can use the Private Message service (PMs) to exchange more personal information. See Help-Page www.rootschat.com/help/pms.php

Good luck with your searches,

Monica

Really good to see this thread still getting posts!  I do believe Andrew b.1816 is my ancestor, I wish we could go back further.  I have not done any research for probably a year, so there might be something out there.  We can only hope!  I live in Tasmania, and am 64, we have relatives in Queensland.  Will post again soon, but always watching!  Has anyone looked at Wigan World website under Wood?  Couple of pictures there if interested.  Sheryl  :)

Hi There,

I also have William Ferrie WOOD and Margaret BARON in my family tree.
William is my 3rd great grandfather.
Their daughter Cecilia WOOD born in 1840 is my second great grandmother.
I have more info on her if anyone would like it.

I would also like to know more about William and Margaret's other children.
Did they also come to Australia?

I am in New Zealand

Kilconquhar (I believe it is pronounced Kinocker locally)
Not quite! It's more like kin-YOU-her.

1851 census at Kilconquhar (transcription at http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl)
William Wood, 37, farm servant
Margaret, 33
Cecilia, 10
Andrew, 8
Margaret, 8
George, 6
May, 4
William, 2
Catherine, 1 month
all born in Kilconquhar except Margaret Sr, who was born in St Monance.

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, invest in a few credits and use some of them to get a copy of the original to make sure that there are no errors in the transcription.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Are you still researching the Wood family?  I have the Wood family in my tree and came upon this post but not sure if you are still active on this site. Let me know if you are.
