25th Brigade Depot was based in Brecon. It comprised the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the 24th (2nd Wawickshire) Regiment plus the Militia and Volunteers from the counties of Cardigan, Radnor, Brecon and Monmouth. In July 1881 the 24th Foot became the South Wales Borderers.

There is a good chance that he served with the 24th Foot prior to joining the Brigade Depot. Also in July 1881 the 25BD became the 24th Regimental District, with most 'brigade' staff transferring across. You should check the service records on Findmypast.

The entry has been later indexed as 'Army'. QMS was an OR (other rank) not an officer. The officers were called Quarter Master.

The 24th Foot were the ones at Rorkes Drift/Isandlwana - 'Zulu'/'Zulu Dawn'. Fans of the first film will know that Stanley Baker renamed them to SWB two years early.

No, only FindMyPast - http://www.findmypast.co.uk/chelsea-pensioners-service-records-collection-search-start.action - there is one born c1844 in Liverpool.

Army pensions were less than army pay so all pensioners had to carry on working.

I think you need to amend his occupation for the 1881 census before you forget to 'Quarter Master Sergeant - 25th Brigade Depot'.
